Seonyudo Island is part of the Han River Renaissance project. In 1978, during Japanese Occupation, the island was cleared and became a sewage treatment plant. In 2001, the plant was shut down and planning began to transform the island into the eco-conscious park it is today.
You can see the island in the distance.
Fishermen along the banks of the Han.
The island is designed to teach people about the environment -
here is the greenhouse.
My favorite part is the water treatment area.
It uses large pools of plants to clean the water.
Each of the pools has a different type of plant.
I don't know the names of any of them.
Greenhouse and water treatment area
The water treatment area is at a higher elevation than the rest of the park.
That way it can run naturally through the rest of the park...
..and into the rain garden.

Looking back at Seonyudo Island
Kids! They're too far away for me to steal any of them.
On the other side finally.
Look Jerry a 7-Eleven!
Pretty sunset over the city.
National Assembly
Originally we all referred to this as "Trump Tower"
but it is actually the 63 Building on Yeouido Island designed by SOM
Yeouido Island is Seoul's main business and investment banking district (essentially Korea's Wall Street). The name Yeouido actually means "You can have it" since the land was unused and unwanted until the 1970s.
